Nova Direita Madeira has raised concerns about alleged irregular use of work contracts by foreign nationals seeking to regularize their documentation status. According to the organization, Madeiran entrepreneurs have reported cases where workers, after signing contracts, fail to show up for work but still demand wages.
Situations were also mentioned where individuals hold contracts with one establishment but work elsewhere without proper declaration and fulfillment of legal obligations. Nova Direita believes these practices, if confirmed, warrant urgent investigation to protect employers and ensure compliance with labor and administrative laws.
Nova Direita Madeira coordinator, Paulo Azevedo, called on the Agency for Integration, Migrations and Asylum (AIMA) and the Regional Labor Inspectorate for rigorous oversight. Azevedo stressed that the issue is not about nationality but about enforcing the law, demanding that those using fraudulent contracts or operating outside the law be held accountable and, if applicable, expelled from the country.
