The Assembly of the Republic recommends government measures to end online sales refusals for residents of the autonomous regions.

Parliament Demands End to Online Shopping Discrimination Against Madeira and Azores

Nearly four years after legislation was approved to prohibit discrimination against consumers from Madeira and the Azores in online purchases, the problem persists.

The Assembly of the Republic has now recommended the government reinforce oversight, review the effectiveness of sanctions, and promote changes to European legislation. The goal is to end sales refusals and restrictions imposed on residents of the autonomous regions.

The recommendation, contained in Resolution No. 275/2026, acknowledges shortcomings in complaint investigation, oversight, and the sanctioning regime. DECO already reported the situation in 2020, which, despite Law No. 7/2022 of January 10, continued in 2023 and in recent operations by ARAE in July and September.
