The Socialist Party of Madeira (PS-Madeira) expressed dissatisfaction with the social-democratic majority's rejection of a proposal to hear from the Orders of Architects, Engineers, and Technical Engineers.
The hearing was intended to gather their input for the parliamentary debate on the petition for the 'Safeguarding of Madeira's Urban Model', scheduled for the following day. PS-Madeira president, Célia Pessegueiro, stated after a meeting with the Regional Section of the Order of Architects that while the issue has a political dimension, technical opinions are crucial, particularly with new legislation increasing professional responsibilities.
The PS had also proposed consulting the Regional Directorate of Spatial Planning, the Regional Secretariat for Equipment and Infrastructure, and the Association of Municipalities of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, but these initiatives were not approved. Discussions also covered changes to the Legal Regime for Urbanization and Construction, effective since October, and the need to review the career framework for architects in Public Administration.
