The President of the Regional Government of Madeira has stated that the privatization of TAP must not jeopardize air links between the island and the mainland, nor with the Azores.
According to the head of the Madeiran executive, the State has the responsibility to ensure public service obligations and territorial continuity are met, even with a new shareholder entering the airline.
This stance comes after the Portuguese Government selected Lufthansa to acquire up to 49.9% of TAP's capital, a process that still awaits final negotiation and regulatory approvals.
