Hotel Saccharum, located in Calheta, will serve as the pioneering unit in a new collaboration between Savoy Signature, ARDITI, and MARE-Madeira. The aim of this partnership is to apply scientific knowledge to promote sustainability within the hotel sector, focusing on areas such as resource efficiency, marine conservation, and environmental awareness.
This initiative seeks to unite hospitality and research, with Saccharum acting as an anchor due to its prior work in sustainability. One of the first actions will be the Eco-Shower project, which will monitor and aim to reduce water consumption, with data analyzed by MARE-Madeira researchers to identify effective solutions.
The partnership also includes activities like guided tours, environmental awareness campaigns, and coastal clean-ups, involving guests and the community. Savoy Signature intends to expand these sustainable practices to other units within the group, providing financial contributions to research and strengthening the hotel's connection to the region's natural heritage.
