Madeira Social Security registers nearly 22,000 contacts in nine months

The Madeira Social Security Contact Centre, located at the São Roque Local Service in Funchal, recorded 21,976 contacts between December 11, 2025, and September 7 of this year. This figure averages approximately 130 calls handled per day.

The national pilot project aims to simplify citizens' access to Social Security and decrease the need for in-person visits. The centre employs 10 professionals and operates on weekdays from 9 am to 5 pm, with a 24-hour automated service.

Common inquiries from users concern payments and consultations of social benefits, contributions from employees and employers, tax enforcement processes, and pensions. Regional Secretary for Inclusion, Labour, and Youth, Paula Margarido, emphasized the focus on services that are "closer, simpler, and more accessible."
